The Online Travel Guide to Bali

About Bali: The on-line Travel Guide...

Hello. I would like to direct this on-line Travel Guide to those who are contemplating a do-it-yourself visit to Asia. To those who would rather rough-it with a backpack than carry awkward heavy suitcases. To those who have put aside the fear of going somewhere new without pre-booking their accommodation. Especially to those who intend this type of trip for the first time!

Be encouraged, Bali is the ideal starting place. Arrive with a passport, a ticket, your bag, some cash and a sense of adventure, and most importantly, a laid-back attitude towards deadlines and other responsibilities.

This document is provided as an internet resource for those who are contemplating a visit to the Indonesian island of Bali, but have yet to invest in one of the many travel books available to describe the island, its accommodations and its places of interest.

Of course it is not possible to provide the level of information in an online document that a book can contain, so our descision was to include enough information to help you to decide if it is worthwhile to take the next step--to buy the book!

Which book? That is up to you. I have personally used travel guides from several of the major publishers whilst travelling in SE Asia, and found all to be useful--look for good maps of local areas (showing the main accommodation districts for instance and perhaps a list of places to stay), information about travelling between cities and about places of interest.

Please note: I make no profit from the provision of the information held in these pages, either directly or indirectly (I work in an industry that is totally unrelated to the travel business, tourism or Indonesia). I have put these pages together for my own pleasure, and to assist would-be travellers who wish to push aside the normal package holiday (as well as anyone else who would like to know more about Bali). Enjoy!

My 15 minutes...
Above: Hardly recognisable in holiday mode, this chap enjoys the view from Ulu Watu - guess who?

Thank-you to those folk (including Des, Alan, Ann, Helen, Peter, Evie, Mary, Eka and Jack) who have proof-read or contributed to these pages, or provided necessary encouragement--especially Robyn, who has to put up with me all of the time. A great deal of the information contained within this guide is based on the notes and diaries kept by Robyn during our many visits to Bali. Finally, I’ll get all of the serious mistakes, omissions and other things fixed one day (ahhh, one day!).

Wayne Reid.
