Committee for a Workers' International

The Committee for a Workers' International is a world-wide organisation of Socialists with members in over 40 countries.

Originally formed in 1974, the CWI currently (March 1997) has affiliates, members or supporters in the following countries:

Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Britain, Canada, Chile, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland-North, Ireland-South, Israel/Palestine, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, USA.

The organisations affiliated already have a proud record for leading big struggles against attacks on workers living standards, against privatisation and unemployment, for the democratisation of the trade unions, against domestic violence, for a minimum wage, etc.

The CWI has initiated a number of international campaigns of solidarity with striking miners, jailed activists, etc. and encouraged the setting up of highly successful youth campaigns against racism and fascism, including the Youth Against Racism in Europe (YRE) who organised the 40,000 strong all-European demonstration against racism in Brussels 1993.
