RNV is published monthly, and contains the latest information on what is happening on Victoria's railway systems.

Rail News Victoria has 48-52 pages in every issue, with a researched article; regular news sections National, Traffic, Rollingstock, Infrastructure, Trams, and Independent; Overseas travel (what to see and how to see it); Buffers (with items of research, history, related hobbies, This was news, Coming events, Readers' questions, Letters, Hobby news, Amendments and additions); and 40-50 photos (with at least four colour centrespreads per year).

RNV is edited with care, with material supplied by the largest group of regular and occasional contributors of any railway-hobby journal in Australia, and yet is Australia's cheapest 48-page rail monthly magazine.
