Sports Convertible Title

Mazda has reclaimed the title of "king of the two seat sports convertibles" following the release of half yearly motor vehicle sales figures.
Spurred by the April release of its new model, the company's MX-5 sports car has achieved 426 sales for the "end-of-June" period.
The nearest rival was the Mercedes Benz SLK with 394 sales while the Mazda's so-called "natural" competitor, the MG-F has managed 270.
Other much vaunted "prestige" models were way behind the MX-5 with the BMW Z3 1.9 and 2.8 models achieving 198 and 104 sales respectively, and the Lotus Elise 32.
Mazda Australia's managing director Malcolm Gough, said many competitors owed their very existence to the MX-5.
"The first model sent other manufacturers rushing to the drawing boards, but no one has been able to emulate our combination of pure sports car heritage, exceptional all round performance and value for money," he said.
"It is a true thoroughbred which has won the worldwide respect of discerning buyers and over the past decade it has become the most successful sports car ever."

Mr Gough said that Mazda Australia was particularly pleased with the fact that most sales of the new models are to customers converting from other vehicle makes and types.
"This is testimony to the very nature of the MX-5 which is practical and highly enjoyable to drive on a day to day basis, and which provides unsurpassed driving pleasure whenever the roof comes down and road conditions permit."
