PEM Services for Small to Medium-sized Businesses

Small to medium-sized businesses are considered to be those with less than 50 employees.

The Issues
Many of these businesses have dealt with occupational health and safety and environmental issues on an ad hoc basis as particular issues arise.

Action may have been prompted by particular incidents or accidents, or may have been the result of the action or attention of regulatory agencies, e.g. Health and Safety Organisation, Victoria (HSOV) or the Environment Prrotection Authority (EPA).

It is likely that the WorkCover premium being paid by the company is not being reduced, and may indeed be increasing as a result of increasing injury claims.

In this situation the environmental and occupational health and safety performance of the company is a matter of chance.

The Regulators
Both the HSOV and the EPA are now expecting and encouraging businesses to take a systematic and proactive approach to meeting their responsibilities

This requires the adoption of a management system foroccupational health and safety and environmental management.

PEM's role
PEM can assist a company by identifying the significant issues, developing action plans to implement solutions to these in a cost-effective, productive, sustainable and strategic manner.

This will address regulatory compliance and can include the development of an appropriate management system for the organisation.

The type of the service can be one of:

  1. Solution of an Immediate Problem.

    This will address your particular pressing issue relating to environmental, occupational health and safety, or quality management, on a project basis. PEM draws on a range of methods to identify and analyse your issue, develop and evaluate options, and provide a highly cost-effective solution to that current problem.

  2. Monitor Your Hot Spots to Make Sure Your System Stays Effective

    This will focus on identifying and then developing a strategy to maximise the continual performance improvement in, the "hot spots" or critical elements for your organisation. PEM will conduct a periodic set of agreed activities, checks or reviews of your critical elements on an appropriate agreed schedule to ensure the on-going effective operation of your management system(s).

  3. Establish a Management System

    Assist to establish an environmental, occupational health and safety, and/or quality management system custom-designed for your organisation. Using one or more of the three PEM User's Manual for the respective systems, PEM will work with your personnel to establish a management system which will develop into full compliance with the relevant Standards within a timeframe which suits your organisation's needs.

  4. Sustainable Strategic Planning via the Natural Step

    PEM is working with the Australian arm of the Swedish Natural Step Program and can assist your organisation to use this powerful educational and strategic planning tool to achieve a competitive edge, by increasing the environmental sustainability of your organisation's operations.
