  About the Company

  Pitcher Environmental Management Pty. Ltd. (P.E.M. Pty.Ltd.) is a small company, established in September 1995, operated by a Managing Director working for clients either alone, or with a team of specialist associates. While not large enough for formal Quality Accreditation, P.E.M. Pty.Ltd has appropriate elements of the AS 9000 series quality management system in place.

  Michael Pitcher has twenty years experience within a variety of public sector contexts relating to: - occupational health and safety, - environment, - international best practice, - community welfare, - education, and - industrial relations,

  He has held senior positions relating to the management of policy functions which addressed issues including:

  • - standards development
  • - regulatory compliance,
  • - risk assessment and management,
  • - development, implementation and audit of management systems
  • - quality, o. h and s. and environmental management systems
  • - industrial relations, and
  • - government-community consultation.

  While employed in government positions, work was undertaken for the following clients-

  • - Health and Safety Organisation, Victoria - Operations Division, Major Hazards & Engineering Branch, Building & Construction Branch, Health and Safety Commission;
  • - Department of Planning and Development;
  • - Environment Protection Authority;
  • - Australian Manufacturing Council's Australian Best Practice Demonstration Program.

    KNOWLEDGE

    Formal training in the
    • physical sciences of mathematics, physics, ergonomics, toxicology, the chemical working environment and radiation and contaminants;
    • environmental science.
    • social sciences of psychology, social psychology including group processes and organisational development;
    • management theory and practice;
    • international aid issues; and
    • B.Sc., and Grad. Dip. Env. Sc

    EXPERIENCE

    * Fourteen years specific experience in occupational health and safety, three in the federal public sector area, and eleven in the Victorian State context, working as policy and project officer and manager supervising policy staff, and managing work units with approximately 20 staff and budgets of $1m. per annum.

    * Experience in the implementation of Quality Assurance systems and auditing of quality and safety management systems and the study of environmental management systems and auditing.

    * Experience working on the Federal Government's Best Practice Program at the Australian Manufacturing Council.

    * Five years experience in industrial relations in the federal public sector, working as Training and Publicity Officer, Occupational Health and Safety Officer and performing general industrial work.

    * Five years experience in the community and welfare sector as a Community Development Officer.

    * Development of Indoor Air Quality Strategy for the Environment Protection Authority.
