The team operates as a Scout Group under the Victorian Branch Adventurous Activities Council.
The Group Leader (GL) is Tony Watson, who is also the Branch Activity Leader (BAL) Caving.
The Lillydale District Caving Team (LDCT) was formed in January 1982
after the 5th Australian Venture held in Nunawading, Victoria.
The first members were a number of Scouting Leaders and Venturers who were active cavers
and lived in and around the former Shire and District of Lillydale (hence the unusual spelling).
At the same time the Branch Caving Council
was convened to formulate guidelines for caving activities in this state.
LDCT adopted its first constitution in February 1984, operating as a Scouting Group in
the Yarra Ranges District of Yarra Valley Region.
In June 1987 the BCC approved a Victorian Branch policy for caving activities by Scout Association members.
Over the years the Team has run nearly 200 caving activities for the
benefit of a large number of Venturer Units, Rover Crews and other Scouting and community groups.
The trips have involved full weekend camping trips to various caving locations across the
length and breadth of Victoria, or just day trips to caves close to Melbourne.
As of 1999, the Branch Caving Council was in recess and the Victorian Branch Activities
Council became responsible for Scouting caving activities in this state.
LDCT was also adopted as the official caving team of the Victorian Branch.
Lillydale District Caving Team was accepted as an Associate of the
Australian Speleological Federation Inc.
in November 1999. The Team was represented in person at the annual Council Meetings of the ASF
held in Bathurst NSW on 2nd January 2001 and Mt Gambier SA on 9th January 2007.
The Team changed its name to Victorian Scout Caving Team (VSCT) in early 2002
to more accurately identify its role in Scouting and cement its close
relationship to the Victorian Branch of Scouts Australia.
LDCT published a short newsletter named Tunnel Vision from 1989 to 2001.
From 2002 it continued to be published under the new team name, VSCT.
The newsletter is produced up to five times per year to keep everyone
informed of what is going on in the Team. Anyone may subscribe
to the newsletter for $10 per calendar year, contact
Tony Watson for details.
