Interface: Build your own customizable control-interface!

Learn to build and customize Hardware for the control of Multi-media, Music and Hybrid art.

Have you ever considered creating your own customized hardware system; building a new experimental musical instrument, a tactile control surface for live video jamming or a digital mixing console for your home studio? If so, Interface is for you.

This course is designed for multi-media, video, sound artists and musicians interested in developing hardware interfaces such as MIDI mixers, video controllers, novel-instruments and installations. This five-day intensive workshop will cover essential practical electronics skills including soldering, and also provide participants with an in-depth knowledge base. Interface includes:

Learning to build your own versatile Hardware Controller,

An in-depth review of sensor technologies and their applications in the Arts,

A theoretical overview investigating cybernetics [HCI], ergonomics, interactive, generative and intelligent interfaces.

A crash course in the MAX/MSP/Jitter language, sensor interfacing basics and demo patch controlling

Experience using multi-media data protocols such as MIDI and OSC,

Hands-on experience with interface boards, soldering and Serial, USB and Gluion interfaces, and finally

Theoretical morning sessions and practical afternoon sessions with and emphasis on developing creative work and interactive installations.

Explore creative audio design and make your own audio software plugins for VST applications and more. VST is one of the most common audio plugin types available. Learn to design and make your own customized plugins. Sell them and start your own business!

This intensive five-day Max/MSP workshop will cover digital audio theory and provide a crash intensive course in Max/MSP and the Pluggo authoring tool. The course is aimed at new media artists with an interest in audio and is designed to accommodate beginners and advanced students.
