Welcome:
At the beginning of this new millennium, musicians are
faced with new challenges. The legacy of postmodernism and technology,
confront the creative musician with endless possibilities and outcomes.
This site documents the music, improvisation, sound-exploration,
instrument-building, composition and studio-recording of the Bent
Leather Band. Live performance is at the heart of our work and we also
play spectacular and unusual leather instruments. These instruments
including the LightHarp and serpentine bassoon were built in
collaboration with world renown leather artist Garry Greenwood. Some of
Garry's unique instrument work can be viewed throught the leather link.
Points of focus for our duo include: live performance of
electro-acoustic music, design and construction of new experimental
musical instruments, gestural control of sound and music, composition
and extended techniques for bassoon, interactive and algorithmic
composition, and improvisation, creative music making and very bent
sounding music.
This site functions as a point of contact for the duo
and as a resource for composers, musicians, artists and anyone
interested in our work. The bassoon multiphonics project is a
comprehensive resource guide to the playing and use of multi-phonics
for the bassoon.
